Join Our Team

Arts Melbourne is launching two new projects this Spring and we need your help to turn our dreams into reality. We are recruiting for two part-time positions.

ARTIST DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR - We are launching SPACES TO CREATE a hot-desk area for creatives with mentoring and support to turn ideas into reality. We need the right person to support our artists. This project is supported by a South Derbyshire Partnership Grant.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR - Arts Derbyshire has always worked closely with our local community. In 2023 we plan to launch creative workshops, projects and activities to develop creativity within our local community supporting local people and our artists.

A HUGE thank you to everyone for supporting Melbourne Festival and Creative Melbourne.

Melbourne Festival, Creative Melbourne Gallery and all of Arts Melbourne other activities are a great credit to everyone involved, we are proud to say that after sixteen years 90% of the work is still done by our amazing volunteers who all share a passion for sharing their creative community.

The Festival team would like to thank our volunteers, hosts and all of the local companies who have sponsored the Melbourne Festival for their support. Links to our sponsors’ websites are available on the sponsors section of the Supporting Melbourne Festival page.

The Festival relies on sponsorship from local businesses and members of the Friends of Melbourne Festival to supplement our main income. Our income from Artists fees for the Art Trail, tickets for the Trail, Concerts and Performances are in themselves insufficient to cover costs of an event the size of Melbourne Festival and the community events for local residents we organise throughout the year. This income raises approximately 80% of the cost of the Festival, to survive and remain fresh and vibrant Melbourne Festival needs support from local companies.

Volunteer

Melbourne Festival is a great credit to everyone involved. It’s amazing that after fifteen years 90% of the work is still done by volunteers. The Festival team would like to thank our volunteers for their support.

The Melbourne Festival Art & Architecture Trail went ahead thanks to the support of our amazing team. In the days before the Art & Architecture Trail volunteers helped setting up display boards, tables and marquees (we needed more marquees and gazebos in 2021 and 2022 to keep visitors and hosts covid safe!) for the Trail. Putting up signs and community artwork around Trail. Welcoming Artists exhibiting in halls. Selling Trail Guides and directing visitors. As the saying goes many hands make light work a few hours can make a big difference, we look forward to hearing from you.

Our Creative Melbourne Gallery opened this year to promote and support regional artists and has a fantastic team of volunteers helping in the Gallery – putting up exhibitions, helping at preview events, working in the gallery - NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY JUST A LOVE OF BEAUTIFUL THINGS!

Other examples of roles for volunteers are helping with workshops for children and young people. Organising workshops for adults. Organising concerts and performances. Supporting Community Projects as part of our Creative Melbourne initiative.

We have a big challenge ahead of us if you would like to get involved please get in touch.

 Sponsors

Melbourne Festival would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all of our sponsors without whom it just wouldn’t happen! The support of our sponsors is greatly appreciated and a glance through their websites will show what a thriving business community there is in and around Melbourne.

 Friends

The Friends of Melbourne Festival was set up in 2008 as an opportunity for local people and small businesses to support Melbourne Festival.

Melbourne Festival enriches the cultural calendar in the village of Melbourne and the rest of South Derbyshire. As a volunteer based, non-profit making organisation the Festival has survived to date on money raised from the Art & Architecture Trail weekend, supplemented by grants from the Arts Council and a few local companies. 2020 saw us make a loss for the first time having got 9 months into planning for the Festival before we were forced to cancel due to COVID. This year every penny counts and we would really appreciate your support.

In order to survive in the long term future, the Festival has to reduce its dependence on Government, i.e. Arts Council & Lottery funding, and replace it with a mixture of income from ticket sales, donations from private individuals and commercial sponsorship.

We would like to invite all families and individuals who would like to support the Melbourne Festival to join the Friends of Melbourne Festival and help ensure our long-term future. The full details are below.

We hope that you will support Melbourne Festival by becoming a Friend.

Hosting

There would be no Melbourne Festival Art & Architecture Trail without the local people who open up their homes, gardens and businesses to welcome artists each year. Approximately 140 Artists are hosted in over 70 venues - from small cottages to public halls - if you live in the centre of Melbourne and would like to help please get in touch.
