Arts Melbourne CIC operates as Melbourne Festival and Creative Melbourne.

On 1 January 2008 Arts Melbourne Limited, a not for profit company limited by guarantee, was set up to run Melbourne Festival. In 2021 It became a community interest company all profits, if there are any, are still re-invested and not paid as dividends to shareholders. Melbourne Festival became a trading name of Arts Melbourne CIC.

The principal reason for having two “Trading Names was that there are arts related activities, such as the Creative Melbourne Gallery & Studios and Workshops which need a different approach and publicity and are outside the September Melbourne Festival period.

In the event of Arts Melbourne CIC closing residual funds will be used to create a Trust which will provide bursaries for East Midlands Artists.

Becoming a Community Interest Company helps to ensure that the organisation will survive for years to come. The ethos of the Arts Melbourne, Melbourne Festival and Creative Melbourne remains bringing great art to Melbourne the creative heart of South Derbyshire.

 Aims and Objectives

Our Aim

To organise and run an annual Festival of visual and performing arts in Melbourne and to develop Creative Melbourne - a permanent hub for the arts for Melbourne, the surrounding villages, and South Derbyshire.

Objectives

The objectives of the Company are to carry on activities which benefit the community and in particular (without limitation) to:

Support artists, makers and creative entrepreneurs who use our studios, run our participatory projects & workshops, exhibit & sell work through our gallery and at our exhibitions & festivals.

Support the people who participate in our creative projects, attend our workshops and visit our gallery, exhibitions and festivals.

Support the staff and volunteers who develop their skills through working with Arts Melbourne. 1 To enhance the profile of Melbourne for the benefit of those that live and have their businesses there.

Principles

1 Bring talent into the Festival and Creative Melbourne from outside Melbourne as well as encouraging local involvement.

2 Build on Melbourne’s role as a regional focus in South Derbyshire.

3 All participants should feel that their contribution, in money, facilities or time should have been worthwhile.

4 Create a surplus of funds to provide bursaries for local young people to study some aspect of visual or performing art or local history.

5 Over and above the bursaries, to create funds to invest in future Festivals, exhibitions and activities,     e.g. to create innovative new work for the Festival.
